Sushi King Kenny Kunene tops the list of well-known personalities nominated by the gay and lesbian community for their Feathers Awards 2011.

Kunene will contest in three categories that include Drama Queen of the Year, Fag Hag of the Year and, together with his business partner Gayton McKenzie, Cutest Couple of the year.

The nominees were announced last night at a party held at Skyline Gardens in Braamfontein.

Kunene is competing with Nonhle Thema and Eric Miyeni in the Drama Queen of the Year category. Thema is the former presenter of Nonhle Goes to Hollywood, which was flighted on DStv channel, Vuzu, and Miyeni is a former Sowetan columnist.

The controversial drama queen award is given to someone whom people read about every Sunday or whose lives revolve around a lot of dramatic behaviour.

Kunene is a well-known businessman and television personality. He started his career as an English teacher and later worked as a public relations consultant and lobbyist for mining companies.

In the cute couple category, Kunene and McKenzie are up against DJ Cleo and Bricks as well as Black Coffee and Mbali Mlotshwa.

The Feathers Awards are hosted by the pink community yearly to embrace individuals in the public eye who inspire, scandalise, amuse and thrill.

Dineo Ranaka and Bonang Matheba and Noni Gasa will compete for the Best Styled female award. Best styled male will be contested by Siphiwe Mpye, Zakes Bantwini and Siyabonga Ngwekazi. DJ Cleo, Lulo Cafe and Aubrey Pooe will vie for hunk of the year.

Diva Extraordinaire of the Year will be contested by Noeleen Maholwana-Sangqu, Thoko Qoboza and Edith Venter.

Caster Semenya, Andile Jali and Oscar Pistorious will battle it out for Sports Personality of the year.
