Kenneth Nkosi was the MC.

The queens, the stars and the overly-glamorous all came out to play last night at the third annual Feather Awards.

Held at The Venue in Melrose Arch, it was MCed by the perennially funny Kenneth Nkosi and Kuli Roberts. Winners included Zahara, who walked away as Best Musician.

The current darling of South Africa Bonang won Best Styled Female and GQ’s Simphiwe Mpiye won Best Styled Male.

Diva Extraordinaire went to legendary socialite Edith Venter, while soccer player Andile Jali won Sports Personality of the Year. Another sport star, Natalie du Toit, beat Kabelo to win Role Model of the Year.

Cutest Couple went to Gayton McKenzie and Kenny Kunene. They sort of pipped DJ Cleo and Bricks in that category, as DJ Cleo pulled out of the awards. He claimed he had issues with the gay movement after Kelly Khumalo accused him of being a homosexual on Ukhosi FM about five years ago.

Kunene won two awards, the second being Fag Hag of the Year, as he never leaves home without his favourite accessory – a gay person. He beat Zizi Kodwa in that category.

He lost out in the Drama Queen of the Year category to Nonhle Tema. Clearly the organisers believed her public meltdown on Twitter and subsequent loss of her popularity and her jobs was far more dramatic than Kenny and his Saturday night attempt at a television show on e.tv.

The red carpet was hosted by Metro FM’s Azania and Penny Lebyane. Category presenters included Tamara Dey, Uyanda Mbuli, Selimathunzi’s Lunga Shabalala and the YFM Twins.

There were performances by current cool house group of the nanosecond Micasa, as well as Feathers favourite Somizi.

A surprise performance was a cover of the Beyoncé hit Girls (Who Run the World), except that Somizi, Amstel and Buji changed it to Gays (Who Run the World).

The Feathers is the first award ceremony this month, which seems to have become award season in South Africa. On Friday, Channel O will be hosting their awards at the Sandton Convention Centre. Then on Sunday the SA Style Awards will be held at Hyde Park Corner. This is topped off by the Metro FM Music Awards, which are scheduled to take place in Nelspruit at Mbombela Stadium on November 26.
